If you’re anything like me and grew up in the 80’s and 90’s listening to R&B music, you’ll know all about harmony.
I mean, who doesn’t like a little Mowtown Philly right?
The thing with harmony is that it’s state of resonance that’s dependant on a range of frequencies working eloquently together to cause a ‘pleasing effect’.
People often mistake it with a moment of solitude, peace and quiet – I guess to some degree you could argue that constitutes harmony at some level, but it's not entirely accurate.
Music is the perfect analogy and the fact is, you can’t achieve harmony with just a single note – harmony just doesn’t work that way. It's a series of notes working well together.
So equally and in more practical terms, harmony is more accurately about different elements (within your life say), working well together.
It’s work, relationships, your environment, what you value, food, your spiritual life and everything that you experience working together, in perfect alignment to create a harmonious and pleasing affect.
It’s your inner world resonating beautifully with the outer world and vice versa.
Harmony is not a state of bliss that you achieve in a single moment, but rather something that is constantly in motion, in flow, with minimal friction and as a consequence, pleasing.
It’s having that sense that everything is exactly where it should be and everything is how it should be.
So how is harmony achieved?
Well is starts with understanding the elements that fundamentally make you human.
It’s understanding the environment and the world around you.
It’s understanding yourself, what you value, your strengths and limitations.
It’s having a sense of purpose and meaning, and;
It's putting that purpose into action!
It’s fundamentally about bringing both your understanding and all the elements in your life into alignment, to complete your 'being'.
It's transformation and embodiment. Living it, not just believing it.
Sometimes that means letting go.
Sometimes it means changing direction.
Sometimes it might mean holding on and learning gratitude.
Sometimes it means adding on.
It really just depends on your circumstances.
What I do know however is that it’s about getting all elements that affect you, doing a little Mowtown Philly with it and then being able to sing along.
