For God's Sake, Don't Be Fine
Updated: Oct 9, 2020

Don’t tell me ‘you’re fine’.
Because the nature of such a response tells me you’re not.
The problem with ‘I’m fine’ is not that you may not be feeling okay.
The problem with ‘I’m fine’ is indifference.
Be sad, be angry, be depressed.
But for God’s sake, don’t be fine.
Because fine means numb and numb is somehow worse.
Life will give you a rollercoaster to ride
A whole spectrum of emotions to contend with
It will give you the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows
Know them. Embrace them.
Because embedded in those experiences is Life itself.
And there is no Life in fine.
In always playing it safe, in playing it down the middle.
There is no Life in mere existence
Because Life indeed calls on you to take a stand,
To face things head on.
To be courageous when afraid
And fearless in the face of danger.
It doesn’t expect you to be perfect, but it expects you to be real.
To be unedited and raw.
So tell me you’re angry, tell me you’re sad.
Tell me you hate me, tell me to leave you alone.
Or indeed tell me you Love me and you're doing great!
But for God’s sake, don’t ever tell me you’re fine.
Maybe it’s high time you live a little.
