What Matters?

Updated: Jan 10, 2020

What Matters is such a simple question on the surface, but it’s certainly not an easy one!

I find that we often mistake ‘simple’ to mean ‘easy’, when it clearly doesn’t.

The question, ‘what matters’ – does require some thought.

When was the last time you asked yourself that question?

What answers did you come up with?

Does the way you live your life reflect your response to this question?

You probably find yourself running around, living life, doing your thing – often not keeping this question at the heart of everything that you do or in fact even think.

We’re in what I like to call a ‘spoilt’ age – we have more options than we have ever had in the course of human history, yet they never seem to be enough.

We are always looking forward, towards the next thing – we get so caught up in the pursuit of ‘happiness’ – that we often lose ourselves in the process.

The question what matters may actually require you to look back, not forward.

Think about less, not more.

The problem with having infinite options with no pre-defined boundaries is that you never really have to make a decision and you never even learn the simple art of saying 'No'. The amount of options available to you are so overwhelming; so overwhelming in fact that you never even know where to start; you simply fall into a state of ‘choice paralysis’.

So I’ll leave you to reflect on this for a moment, pick the 3 things that matter most to you, what is it that you truly value?

Now list them in order of importance.

Now how much time, energy, money do you spend on each?

If you’re not yet familiar with My Chi Journey – then consider this an introduction. We don’t like too much fluff in how we approach life; we prefer to get right to the heart of what really matters - so we find it's best to first figure out what that is!

We can worry about the 'how' to live accordingly later - it may not always be easy to do, but it is a pretty simple concept when you think about it.
